Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu congratulated Tashi Yangjom, hailing from Lubrang Village in Dirang Circle of West Kameng district, on becoming the first Indian female climber to scale the Mount Everest this season.
She scaled the summit on May 11 at around 6 am. In fact, she is the first Indian to reach the peak this season.
Having trained at National Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports (NIMAS) in West Kameng District’s Dirang village, Yangjom is the ninth climber from the institute to scale the highest summit in the world.
Taking to Twitter, Khandu wrote, “Congratulations Ms Tashi Yangjom from Dirang for scaling Mt. Everest and becoming the first Indian lady climber to Summit Everest this Season. Regular Training at NIMAS Dirang has made her a strong mountaineer with blitzkrieg speed. She becomes the ninth climber from NIMAS to scale Everest.”
NIMAS Dirang also congratulated Yangjom. It said: Congratulations to Ms Tashi Yangjom for being the first Indian climber to scale Mt Everest this season on 11 May 2021.Our sincere thanks to Honourable CM Shiri Pema Khandu ji for always supporting NIMAS and young energetic climbers.The nation is proud of Ms Tashis’s recent feat.”
Arunachal Governor Brig (Retd) B D Mishra also congratulated her. He said, by conquering Mount Everest, Yangjom has proved that the daughters of Arunachal Pradesh are tough, courageous, adventurous, enterprising and meritorious.
This is a proud moment for people of Arunachal Pradesh. Her achievement will motivate other youths of the state to excel in their chosen field, Mishra said.
The Governor also lauded NIMAS Dirang stating that the institute has achieved its objective of spotting talented youth and facilitating them in achieving the pinnacle of mountaineering.
The governor said Yangjom as a youth icon must now also work towards creating awareness against the Covid-19 pandemic in the state.
She must make a clarion call to motivate the people of the state to strictly observe the protocols for protection from the Coronavirus, including wearing of facemask, washing of hands frequently, and maintaining social distance, the governor said
